La Mariposa, or the Butterfly Chair, was originally designed in Buenos Aires in 1938 by Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, along with Antonio Bonet and Juan Kurchan. This classic chair is also known as the Hardoy chair or BKF chair after its creators.

In the late 1990's Lars Kjerstadius created the most comfortable and well proportioned version of this chair design to date. By making changes to the original open design Lars made a chair that was better suited to the size of 21st Century humans: The chair itself has been made 30% larger, the position of the leather has been adjusted and the steel frame is flat-packed for easy delivery to any location. We call this version of the design the Swedish Butterfly Chair.

To produce the new Butterfly Chair Lars Kjerstadius created the company Cuero ('Leather' in Spanish). Today the company is still family-owned and run by his son and daughter-in-law. The Butterfly Chair is made deep in the Swedish forests with a clear focus on quality and sustainability.

The Mariposa Butterfly Canvas Chair is a great and lower cost alternative to the leather or sheepskin version. Thanks to its natural properties, the cotton cover keeps you cool in the summer and warm during the winter. Made of extra-strong cotton, the Mariposa Butterfly Canvas Chair is a lightweight chair and provides maximum comfort.

The Mariposa Butterfly Canvas Chair is also available for outdoor use

Really Well Made & Delivered

Although I was initially nervous that there would be some problem getting these chairs (with significant discount) shipped to the US, but the RWM team graciously answered my questions whenever I had them. The chairs arrived without flaw and are currently the nicest items in my living room! I'll definitely purchase again from Really Well Made, and certainly more of these butterfly chairs. If the leather one is very beautiful, the canvas ones are immediately comfortable. It was a good decision getting both.
