The Eames Plywood Elephant is a new release of a prototype toy elephant made by Charles and Ray Eames in 1945. However, this piece never went into production due to the cost of making it, instead it was purchased by the MOMA museum. Vitra made the product available for the first time in 2007 as a plastic Eames Elephant version, today it has also been introduced in the original plywood material.

Birch plywood with an American Cherry wood face veneer is steam treated and set into moulds to create each of the toy's two sections. The wood is then joined with a brass bolt and finished with a clear protective lacquer.

Whether it is used as a sturdy indoor toy or simply as an attractive object in a child's room, this friendly looking animal with prominent, oversized ears will bring delight to children and parents alike.
