HAY’s reproduction of Børge Mogensen’s classic J42 chair clearly reflects his design philosophy. Precise proportions with simple horizontal and vertical lines are used to construct a curved spindled backrest and angular armrests. With a broad plywood seat and frame in solid oak or beech, the design has a timeless quality that is built to provide lasting comfort.

Designed to recreate the classic FBD furniture collection, the J-Series offers a functional design born out of industrial development. FDB created a strong furniture concept in 1933, and under Børge Mogensen’s leadership as design director from 1942, the FDB furniture linked industrial production closely with architectural furniture design.

The primary focus was not on detailing, but on making well-designed furniture accessible to the general population. The industrial approach eliminated the need for special components and all chairs featured identical legs. FDB revolutionised the industry as a precursor of many of the design icons that Denmark is acknowledged for today around the world.

Available in oiled oak, water-based matt lacquered oak or painted beech finishes. The J42 chair is not a knock-down item and comes fully assembled.

Beautiful handcrafted chairs

I am so happy with Really Well Made, the chairs I ordered came on time and were very well wrapped to protect against damage.
The quality of the HAY chairs are very good, they are comfortable as well as looking well designed in our dining room.
I awarded 5 stars as there was nothing to fault this independently owned company, I would recommend them.
