The Eames DSW Plastic Side Chair RE has been updated with new colours for 2019. The update creates a new link between the Eames Fiberglass Chairs and the Eames Plastic Chairs. In an extensive process of research and analysis, the historical Eames colours have inspired a harmonious palette that emphasises the affinity of the two chair groups. The result is a rich spectrum of hues highlighting the special properties of the different materials. The interplay of vibrant and more subtle colours makes it easy to combine Eames Plastic Chairs and Eames Fiberglass Chairs.

The Eames DSW Plastic Side Chair RE is a contemporary version of the legendary fiberglass chair, with a wooden and black-painted steel leg base. It was produced in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Museum of Modern Art in New York’s Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition and was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair.

Since the 1950s the organically shaped seat shell of the Plastic Side Chair has been combined with various bases and produced in the millions. In the current recycled polypropylene version, the side chair generates fewer climate-changing emissions and consumes significantly less energy during production. Also, its curved design provides even greater seating comfort. The wooden legs are either available in maple or ash timber.

From 2015 the DSW has been available is a revised (slightly larger) size this 'New Height' is now the standard DSW model.
